Atmospheric perspective
(00:44:58)
A great way to add depth to your painting is to use aerial perspective (also called atmospheric perspective). Colors in the background look less saturated, and will tend to lean towards the color of the sky. Often they get a kind of blue, grey or greyish blue, but it there are exceptions of course. Also, the more you look into the distance, the less contrast in color and tonal values you'll see.
